HEXHAM HEADS: CURSE OF THE ANCIENT STONE HEADS

Well, aren’t we all excited and mystified by ancient artefacts, monuments, places, and objects? What If I said that some of these ancient objects are best left alone? According to ancient legends, some of these ancient objects are cursed! Well, you heard it right. To some ancient cultures and legends, many objects, places, artefacts etc. are said to be cursed. Some say that it is all made up because there are people who don’t want these places or artefacts to be disturbed or exploited. Some don’t believe in the supernatural and paranormal and think that it’s a gaff to make these ancient finds more mysterious and more attractive.

However, there is another group of people in the world who truly believe that what has been said about these ancient places and objects is completely true. Furthermore, according to them, these objects such as figurines, statues, clay and earthen objects, or ancient places which are still undiscovered should not be taken lightly as they might have some truth in them. And yet, there is another group of people who either intentionally or inadvertently get mixed up in these legends, due to their lack of knowledge overconfidence, or ignorance and pay the price for it. Something like this happened to a family in England in the early 1970s, where the kids of a family while playing in their garden dug out something which nearly ruined their lives in the coming days. Let’s find out why and how.

According to reports, it all started in the small village of Hexham, Northumberland County, Northern England in 1971. Furthermore, the kids who dug up these artefacts were of the Robson family. Now, these Hexham Heads are said to be a pair of small stone heads, measuring up to 6 cm in length.

Now, according to tabloid reports, these stone heads were dug up by the Robson kids while playing in their garden, as mentioned above. This was taken as quite natural at that time by the parents of the two boys. The real trouble started when the Robson family started experiencing strange phenomena in their house. Phenomena like the heads moving by themselves, and bottles mysteriously flying across the room. Not only this, the neighbours of the Robson family also mentioned witnessing strange experiences like seeing the figure of a half-man and half-goat in the vicinity, or hair violently being pulled from their boys’ heads by an unseen force etc. The Robson family, obviously out of concern for their safety handed the objects to a Celtic expert, named Anne Ross. Surprisingly, Anne also started experiencing the same strange and mysterious phenomena that its previous owners were having. For instance, one night, she saw a half-man and half-wolf-like entity going down the stairs. Anne naturally was shocked but she still decided to follow the figure. After having followed the creature, she lost track of it. It seemed to have simply disappeared.

A few days later, her daughter also saw a werewolf-like creature sitting on the stairs; and on being discovered, jumped over the banisters and vanished in the corridor below. Anne’s daughter was petrified and narrated this to her mother. Upon further research, she found out that this apparent creature was last linked to the Hexham Wolf that had killed livestock way back in 1904. Not only this, Anne also reported feeling the presence of a cold, dark entity around the house. The mysterious phenomena continued plaguing her, for instance, doors would open and slam shut all by themselves, a mysterious presence of another dark entity. Now, this expert could relate to the Robson family’s harrowing experience. Surprisingly, all of this phenomenon stopped as she moved these two Celtic Stone Heads out of her house.

The two Stone Heads were interestingly shaped like human skulls. They were also said to be spherical and were believed to be part of something bigger. The more the word spread around about the Hexham Stone Heads and their creepy stories attached to them; the more attention it attracted from archaeologists, experts on ancient objects, Celtic historians and people at large. The media also were having a field day in publishing such kinds of stories.

Well, a few days later, another expert on Celtic matters Dr. Desmond Craige, according to records, came forward and proclaimed that he had made these stone-heads. Further, he said that he had occupied the house where the Robson family lived, back in the 1950s, and had made them for his daughter. He also claimed that he had made 3 such kinds of stone heads, out of which 2 had been lost, while he had the sole remaining one with him. Naturally, he was not believed at the time and was asked to prove by replicating the stone-heads. He did replicate them but his replicas were found to be a bit crude than the ones we are talking about.

The Hexham Heads have been a subject of research by many experts and scientific organizations since then. According to reports, these stone heads were given to Southampton University, and later on they were in the possession of a psychic. As of now, according to reports, these Hexham Heads have again been claimed to have been lost.

Another interesting aspect of the Hexham Heads is that many people have many theories related to it. Some say that these objects belonged to the Nordic Mythology, describing it as a monster in the mythology named “Wulver.” According to Nordic mythology, the “Wulver” was said to be a very powerful spirit. It was also said that it resembled a Wolf. That’s why, as early as 1904, the people of Hexham believed that the wolf spirit was trying to be born again. Furthermore, the descriptions that Anne gave of the half-man, half-wolf-like creature were similar to the records found in Nordic Mythology. Furthermore, the people of Hexham in 1904, were terrified of the “Wulver”, as they believed that some supernatural phenomenon was responsible for the deaths of their livestock and cattle.

Unfortunately, due to the mysterious disappearance of these ‘Hexham Heads’, now no one will be able to know whether these ‘Hexham Heads’ were just a pair of stone artefacts or whether they were believed to be linked to the terrifying supernatural legend of the “Wulver.”

However, there is another group of people in the world who truly believe that what has been said about these ancient places and objects is completely true. Furthermore, according to them, these objects such as figurines, statues, clay and earthen objects, or ancient places which are still undiscovered should not be taken lightly as they might have some truth in them.
